How Audacy migrated its digital advertising business in just six weeks

Find out how this pioneer of audio streaming carried out a seamless ad server transition without missing a beat

10,000 ad campaign migrated
0 revenue lost
6 weeks total migration period
0 configuration errors

The Challenge

As a large audio publisher with 40m MAU across its streaming audio, video and web platforms, plus a record 28m unique listeners across its podcast network, Audacy’s digital assets need to deliver incredible performance for advertisers.

When the company set out to migrate audio ad servers, they faced a significant technical hurdle: transferring disparate files including booked orders, creative formats, and tracking pixels to a new system.

The complexity? These file types weren’t a perfect match, requiring careful taxonomy mapping to ensure everything transferred correctly, without breaking campaign performance or revenue tracking.

Adding to the pressure, the project window was 60 days, to meet Audacy’s objective of completing the migration before the company’s busiest season of the year. Any misstep risked lost revenue, broken reporting, and client dissatisfaction. There was no room for errors, delays, or missing data.

The Solution

Given the sheer breadth and depth of ad campaign data to be migrated, Audacy knew they would benefit from bringing in a trusted outsourced adops partner to support the load.

Recognizing that adops.com was well-versed in building API software at a competitive price - Audacy chose them to build the script to extract data from their legacy ad server APIs and send it into their new ad server APIs.

During the partnership, the adops.com team consulted on everything related to adops automation and procedures, using their domain expertise to:

  • Migrate over 10,000 campaigns and 20,000 ad creatives
  • Provide the correct taxonomy for all campaign and creative files
  • Troubleshoot and support Audacy’s AM360 operations for display ads on their web and mobile apps

The Results

  • Speed. Audacy’s entire audio advertising operation was migrated to an entirely new server in just six weeks - two weeks under target - without any lost revenue.
  • Accuracy. By automating otherwise manual processes, adops.com was able to ensure zero loss in data or reporting.
  • Efficiency. By leveraging adops.com’s software system expertise, Audacy was able to preserve thousands of ad campaigns comprising millions of dollars in revenue. This prevented the project turning into manual work falling on adops staff that have busy day jobs.
paper background-1

"Most mistakes, human or otherwise, cost money on a project like this. adops.com helped us minimize errors by migrating the ad campaigns using the respective ad server APIs. The remarkable thing about this project was how quickly adops.com was able to execute each increment of migration work, and probably more notably, how agile they were when changes were required, of which there were a lot!"
